Genetics Library
The Department of Genetics includes a specialist library. Although many science resources are now available online University-wide, the Genetics Library holds some older texts and reprints that may be of interest to historians of science.
The Genetics Library is used primarily by Department members, but all others [whether members of the University of Cambridge or not] are welcome. However, it is advisable to read the information on this website, and to contact us first, if intending to visit.
What's in the Genetics Library :
Books : Most of our books are relatively old, since books are now rarely used to teach genetics. Recent books, especially standard texts, tend to be for use in the Library only
Journals : We still take paper copies of a few key genetics journals, and have substantial back-runs of more titles, but most journals are now consulted online
Reprints : We have a substantial collection of reprints of papers by important geneticists, but unfortunately they are not indexed online. There is, however, a card-index
Theses and projects : We keep PhD theses of members of the Department, and project reports of past Part IIs
... And what we haven't got : Archives relating to the history of the Department
