PLM4 22-23 September 2009
The 4th Symposium on the Physics of Living matter is part of an open access series run by the University of Cambridge as part of their initiatives at the interface between Physics, Biology and Medicine. This year the Symposium will be held in conjunction with the Centre for Systems Biology of the University of Cambridge, and will consist of four sessions.
The first session will concentrate on systems approaches to biological problems, with an emphasis on genomics and proteomics. The second session will have a focus on networks at different levels of complexity. The third session will be dedicated to macroscopic cell biological problems from the perspective of the physical sciences. The Symposium will be closed with the by-now-traditional W.L. Bragg Lecture, which this year will be delivered by Uri Alon, from the Weizman Institute in Israel. His work on transcriptional networks has provided insights into the structure of the information processing capability of the cell.
The interface between the physical and biomedical sciences is an emergent area of interest, and over the years this Symposium has been acting as a catalyst and a focus for an emerging discipline, and a community of scientists.
