We are beginning here a stream of ‘news’ items from the lab which will provide a more dynamic window into our activities and progress. The beginning of the year has been kind and here is a summary of what has happened.

Our paper “Modulation of the ligand independent traffic of Notch by Axin and APC contributes to the activation of Armadillo/ß-catenin in Drosophila(Muñoz Descalzo, S. Tkocz, K.. Balayo, T and Martinez Arias, A) has been accepted for publication in 'Development' and continues our progres into unravelling the mechanism of Wntch signalling.

Pedro Machado was awarded a Herchel Smith Postdoctoral fellowship and this will allow him to continue his immersion into Biology from the quantum gravity area he comes from.

David Turner has joined us to work on the Project geared towards understanding “the molecular origin and function of dynamic heterogeneities in Mouse embryonic stem cells”. David did is PhD with Mike White in Liverpool and we are looping forward to his contributions from his experience in single cell análisis of gene expresión. David was awarded his PhD a few days ago: congratulations to him!

Pedro and Sabine went to Madrid to visit Nicole Gorfinkiel (who took a position in the CSCI Center for Molecular Biology in Madrid) to discuss their theoretical work with her in the context of our ongoing collaborations.

Alfonso did his yearly stint teaching in the PartII Developmental Biology module. It was the usual mix of bacterial systems biology, network theory, a lot of noise and some ‘gene biology’. At some point we might put the lecture notes on the web.
