I am developing methods for expressing hairpin RNAs and dominant negative mutant proteins in the extended G2 phase of primary spermatocytes in Drosophila. This will allow us to mis-regulate a variety of cell cycle genes in male meiosis.
The meiotically dividing primary spermatocytes are particularly amenable to time-lapse studies in order to evaluate roles of specific molecules in spindle organisation and function.
This work is being carried out in collaboration with Paolo D'Avino.
