Overview

  1. To use printers through the departmental print server you will need a working account.
  2. Check that your account works and obtain your PIN by connecting to the Genetics Papercut server. Your PIN will be hidden until you click to show it. If you can't log in then your account is not working. If you have your IT welcome letter and haven't yet changed your password then you must do so here or on a domain attached computer before printing will work.
  3. Refer to the summary table below to find the address of the printer you wish to use (CUPS is the print system used by Mac and Linux):

Aternatively, the print server lists which
printers you can use. For CUPS based systems (Macs and most Linux) the address of the printer is smb://print.gen.private.cam.ac.uk/printername . For Windows systems the address is \\print.gen.private.cam.ac.uk\printername . Replacing printername with the name of the printer of course.
  4. The method of connecting to the printer depends on your computer's operating system.
    1. For PCs you can copy & paste the address into the "Run" dialogue which can be opened by pressing the Win-R key combination. If you are asked for a username and password use your DEPT\username and associated password. See also these instructions.
    2. For Macs see these instructions
    3. For Ubuntu 14.04 see these instructions
