Jelena Aleksic, a former MRC-funded Graduate Student in Professor Steve Russell's Group in the Department of Genetics [>2011] has been named as a rising star in the biotech industry. Jelena is featured as an inspirational female bio-entrepreneur in 'BioBeat : 50 Movers & Shakers in BioBusiness 2015'
Earlier this year, Jelena and Robert Stojnic, who also obtained a PhD from the Department, founded GeneAdviser, which seeks to matches those with suspected rare genetic diseases to appropriate diagnostic facilities.
