Statement on Part II Genetics teaching for 2020-2021

Due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and government guidance, we have had to make some changes to the programme in order to mitigate against risks to health and to give you the best possible academic experience in the circumstances. We will continue to monitor and respond to the changing public health situation.

The changes are:

All lectures will be delivered online.

Non-lecture teaching sessions (such as journal criticism, data/ problem handling, social aspects of genetics / SAG discussions) will be delivered as a mix of in person and online sessions.

Small Group Teaching (supervisions from lecturers, meetings with your adviser) will be delivered as a mix of in person and online sessions.

Your Lent Term Research Project will allow you to achieve the same learning outcomes. However, these will be reconfigured to allow for social distancing and availability of space. At this stage, it looks most likely that all training will be in dry lab/ computational-based research approaches. In the best-case scenario, we hope to be able to provide some limited wet lab experience, for those who would like to obtain it. Whether this is possible will depend on conditions later in the year.

Submitted course work requirements  (Literature Review and Project Report for single subject Genetics students, and dissertation for BBS students)  will not be changed.

Full details of how the course will be run will be provided later in the summer via the course handbook and Moodle teaching site.
