Title: The genetic analysis of population-scale data
Professor Gil McVean, Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics, University of Oxford
The availability of population-scale genomic data sets linked to biomedical data is transforming many areas of research.  However, the statistical and computational challenges of organising, analysing and interpreting such information are substantial. Using examples from humans and their pathogens, I will discuss how new approaches to the analysis of genomic and phenotypic data can provide insight into processes ranging from the aetiology of autoimmune diseases to the origin and spread of drug resistance.
